Many people choose to request no gifts when hosting parties for adults. I am assuming your husband has everything he needs already and you just want your friends and family to enjoy celebrating this milestone birthday with him. There are a couple ways you can go here. You can include on the invitation a simple "No gifts please," or something a little jazzier like "Your presence is your present." This clearly lets the guests know your wishes, however don't be surprised if you still get some presents from guests who still feel a social obligation to bring a gift.
You might consider having guests make a donation to an organization that your husband supports. On the invitation write "In lieu of gifts, please make a donation to Heifer International in Mike's honor." This option is nice because your guests feel that they are still gifting, you don't have a bunch of presents to deal with and others in need are benefiting from the donations.
